Thanks for stopping by to get acquainted with the information on this website. This site is designed to support students and provide a resource for success in English class. Students are encouraged to use the information provided here to help develop their reading, writing, thinking, speaking, and listening skills. There are also tips on developing study skills, ACT prep, and email etiquette.
You can find a list of required materials, student expectations, and helpful links and tools.
A copy of the course syllabus will be sent home to you at the start of the year. This will include a QR code to an optional Google Form for you to send me any helpful information about your child and how they best learn.
Additionally, here are three suggested ways you can partner with me to encourage your student this year:
No missing assignments.
While it is a good goal to get the highest grade possible, sometimes a more effective goal is to make sure there are no missing assignments recorded in Aspen. It is very difficult to fail a class if all assignments are turned in.
Get help!
If your student is confused or struggling with an assignment, they need to make an appointment to see me during study hall by clicking this Calendly link. Encourage your student to advocate for themselves and to take charge of their education. If you have additional concerns or would like to reach out, please email me.
Check grades.
Regularly check your student's grades in Aspen. Be aware of their progress in each class. A good idea is to have a weekly or biweekly grade check. Have your student sign in to Aspen and show you their grades on their device. Don't wait for the end of a grading period! (Grading periods are 9.5 weeks long. A good time to check in with your student is every 4.5 weeks.)
Sincerely,
Mrs. Griz
